Festival of Angels< Back to Shortlist

The Festival of Angels engaged with thousands of people across Rotherham inviting them to share their interpretation of the theme of angels. More than 30 voluntary community groups got involved in an exhibition at the Minster and this saw over 50 angels created which then went on show across the borough.

Although not a faith based project, the Festival of Angels explored the commonalities between faiths and worked hard to encourage a break from the norm and explored themes including gender identity and encouraged difficult conversation. The festival, which started in October 2017 and is ongoing, has had an increase in engagement from Black and Asian communities with many exploring wide interpretations of Islamic art.

The project is led by the communities of Rotherham and coordinated by the Rotherham Ethnic Minority Alliance with the aim of bringing people together and building common understanding and shared purpose.
