We jumped at the chance and applied. “Our idea? To walk a mile in someone else’s shoes - literally! We imagined a colourful cloth footpath winding up Haworth Main Street, made from stitched footprints that reflect the stories, passions and personalities of the people who made them. We were thrilled to receive the grant in January 2025, and planning began.” What happened? “We booked West Lane Baptist Church for workshops in May, July and September and invited local groups to join in,” says Sue. “We got started right away, using 60 x 60cm fabric squares to stitch a pair of feet - each one decorated with buttons, trim, paint, thread and imagination. Soon, the path began to grow. “The workshops were buzzing with creativity. Some people arrived unsure of what to make but quickly found inspiration. Many took their pieces home, involving family, friends and neighbours. Local schools, Scouts, Guides, churches, art groups and shopkeepers all joined in - and the results were amazing. "Each footprint tells a story. Some reflect personal achievements, others celebrate hobbies or loved ones. We’ve got everything from wheelchair tracks to cat paws and dog prints.” Who else got involved? “We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who helped bring this project to life,” says Sue. “To The Stitch Society and Sewing Days for donating fabric and trims, to Worth Valley Magazine and Haworth Festival for spreading the word, to West Lane Baptist Church for being the perfect workshop venue, to The Haworth Trust for managing our grant, to Cobbles and Clay for their continued support, to St Michael & All Angels Church for hosting this installation. And, of course, the brilliant members of the Haworth Stitch Group, who stitched every footprint into place with love and care. “We’ve been blown away by the response to our Footprints Project. We now have 80 metres of path, spread across 32 panels and featuring 400 unique footprints! The full path was on display along Haworth Main Street on Saturday 25th October and then moved to the beautiful St Michael & All Angels Church where it stayed until 23rd November 2025.” You can see the footsteps stretching along the length of Haworth Main Street in this short video: And then installed in St Michael & All Angels church here . . .
