Survivor Arts poster for community choirAngie Spoto of the Survivor Arts Community in Glasgow tells us how a 'Keep on Creating' microgrant from Creative Lives helped the group run summer projects as part of its important work with survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault.

"The Survivor Arts Community is a Glasgow-based non-profit that supports the creativity of survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault.

We were so pleased to receive a ‘Keep on Creating’ microgrant to support our projects this summer, especially as this grant has helped us continue to offer accessible digital and hybrid services.

The grant went toward our accessibility technology costs, which has allowed us to provide captioning for all our digital and hybrid events and workshops.

Survivor Arts philosophy group posterThis summer, our programme has included a community choir and a philosophy discussion project. The Survivor Arts Community Choir brings together survivors in over 20 weekly sessions and an optional public performance in December to meet other survivors and together develop their musicianship, singing, voice work and creativity.

'Our Philosophy' is a community discussion project and accessible reading group, led by survivors for survivors.

Monthly sessions focus on a different philosopher or text. No previous experience of philosophy is required - we welcome self-identifying female survivors who think deeply, feel strongly and want to nourish their ability to communicate.

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Creative Lives for their support in helping us continue to put on programming that is accessible to as many people as possible."
