Samba YaBamba Youth Street BandGaynor Milne of Glasgow-based youth street band, SambaYaBamba tells us how a Creative Lives 'Together Again' microgrant helped their young people safely attend rehearsals and performances.

"SambaYaBamba was delighted to receive the Together Again microgrant of £300 towards the costs of bringing young folks together to play carnival-style street music.

Our grant was used to provide door-to-door taxi travel for young folks with additional support needs to attend our weekly rehearsals in drums & brass in Glasgow City Centre, and to play some joyous street gigs for delighted audiences in and around Glasgow.

This provides them with safe and accessible transport and breaks down a crucial barrier in allowing them to take part in fun, group music activity, to learn a range of instruments and create tunes together to perform.

Grants such as Together Again, really make a difference for young folks with additional support needs to get to rehearsals and gigs.

SambaYBamba has impacted Cleo’s social, physical and emotional life. She has been able to make friends from samba which changed her life and increased her happiness and confidence. And the performances give her the confidence to speak, and drumming is also good exercise for her as well.  (Participant parent)
