Purely Poetry has been running since October 2011, welcoming fans of poetry of all ages, experience and background get together to share in the mutual adoration of words. We provide a platform for all poets s to share their work, fostering an open, laid back and encouraging atmosphere for people to read and listen in comfort.

To take part, the process is simple:

TURN UP - SIGN UP - SPEAK UP

TURN UP

You'll need a ticket in that case. Tickets are £4, with all proceeds going to the Crescent. Just buy on the night or pre-order through the Crescent box office.

Registration for readers will be open before we start. Just get your name in the hat. Names are then pulled out at random throughout the night.

SPEAK UP

Once you're name is out of the hat, then's your chance to take the mic! Each reader has seven mins max to read, so that everyone has equal time, and that as many readers as possible can be fitted into the night. You can read your own work, share a favourite, share just one poem or as many as you can fit into 420 seconds!

Each June, we run the Belfast Book Festival Poetry Slam, and each Autumn, we host the Belfast heat of the All Ireland Poetry Slam, with the winner going on to compete in the national final.

All the proceeds of our nights go towards the Crescent Arts Centre, a registered charity in the arts.

We look forward to hearing your poems!
