Our Lens Our Story exhibition at Oasis in CardiffOur Lens Our Story was a collaborative creative community project involving refugees and asylum seekers from the Oasis Refugee Support Centre in Splott, Cardiff. The initiative was supported by Ffotogallery and Menter Caerdydd.

Participants came together to take part in photography and printing workshops which were held at the Oasis centre. They created photograms and cyanotypes, participated in a portrait workshop and a documentary photography focused photo walk around the local area where they live in initial and dispersed accommodation.

Working with local photographers to learn the basics of photography, participants applied their learning to capture their own personal images. Some also wrote poems about their journey to Wales to support their photographs. The project resulted in a display in The Old Library, Cardiff.

Helen Moseley-Williams said: “These photographs offered an opportunity to see life through the eyes of those forced to flee their homes and country for safety here in Wales. The hope was that people who visited this exhibition would engage with the photographs and words, and leave with a better understanding of what life is like for asylum seekers and refugees here in Cardiff.”
