Support Voluntary Arts Wales and local arts groups

One of the most common requests we hear from voluntary creative groups across the country is for small, one-off grants to help with costs such as materials, equipment and room hire.

We have recently launched a Localgiving website, with the purpose of generating funds for our work in promoting local creativity, as well as creating a fund to distribute as micro-grants of £100 each to voluntary arts groups.

First micro-grant 

With the donations already received, we are delighted to report that your support has enabled us to make our first micro-grant. This would not have been possible without your generosity - many thanks. 

Our first micro-grant is to Aimee’s Friday Art Group, which organises creative activities in Prestatyn, North Wales, and will help them buy materials for a new arts project and community display. 

Set up in 2015 in response to a lack of arts provision in the area, the aim of Aimee's Friday Art Group is to bring people together, share ideas and techniques, socialise, make arts and crafts, have fun and enhance lives through art.

The group is open to anyone regardless of artistic ability or experience. Since its launch, the group has demonstrated the benefits of regular participation in creative activity, so much so that around one third of its members have been referred by GPs or Occupational Therapists.

One participant described the group as: "A safe environment that is welcoming, creative, fun, and which gives me a break from my carer duties. It's like a second family to me, that brings me a huge amount of enjoyment and warmth."

Aimee Colville, the group’s founder, said: “I truly believe that art makes a significant contribution to improving lives, health and wellbeing. Through the arts we can express and fulfil ourselves and engage with other people in ways that other forms of communication do not offer.

"This micro-grant will help us to buy new materials and I will be planning a collaborative group project that will be on display for our community to enjoy. I can’t wait to share with you what we have been up to in a few months time when our new project is complete.”
