Artist Michelle O'Donnell's glass wings tell stories of the local community

We were delighted to celebrate the launch of new artwork Wings of Edenderry in a special opening event at Edenderry Library on Wednesday 28 August 2024.

Commissioned as part of Creative Places: Edenderry, Michelle O'Donnell's piece celebrates the shared history, pride, and diversity of the community. The project involved workshops in local schools, at the library, and at the artist's home studio, through which Michelle gathered stories, photographs, recipes, and more and wove them into the design of the glass wings.

Many thanks to Dr Philip Brady, Seonaid Murray, Dr Sally O'Leary, and Michelle O'Donnell for sharing speeches and reflections; The Colourful Butterfly Bakery for supplying delicious butterfly-wing themed buns; and to all who attended the launch event.

Michelle O'Donnell is an internationally acclaimed glass artist based in Rhode, County Offaly. She specialises in bespoke pieces which are highly evocative and utterly unique; work that speaks to the head and appeals to the heart.
