'Making Common Cause' is a publication featuring essays curated and commissioned by Creative Lives in 2018 to explore the potential of cultural commoning. This collection aims to demonstrate both the ways in which cultural commoning is already an inherent part of our local communities and their culture and also ways in which we might further develop this model as the basis for a future cultural ecology.

The publication was launched on 1 November 2018 at Cecil Sharp House in London with a discussion which is available as a podcast below. The panel, chaired by Creative Lives Chief Executive, Robin Simpson was:

Kevin Murphy - one of the three editors of ‘Making Common Cause’ and then Chief Officer of Voluntary Arts Ireland.

Baroness Beeban Kidron OBE - a British filmmaker best known for directing Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004) and the Bafta-winning mini-series Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit (1989), adapted from the Jeannette Winterson novel. From 2013-2019 she had been the President of Voluntary Arts.

Karl Wilding - Director of Public Policy and Volunteering at the National Council for Voluntary Organisations. Karl is an advisor to Charity Bank, a trustee of US voluntary organisation Creating the Future, and a trustee of St Albans Centre for Voluntary Service.

Jerri Daboo - Professor of Performance in the Department of Drama at the University of Exeter. Jerri has been researching performance and culture in the British South Asian communities, particularly looking at the development of performance, culture and activism in the town of Southall. She was a Trustee of Voluntary Arts.

David Bryan - Chair of Creative Lives and Director of Xtend UK Ltd, a management consultancy working in organisational change, leadership development and diversity.
