Area: Edinburgh
Deadline: Ongoing

St Cecilia’s Hall in central Edinburgh is the oldest purpose-built concert hall in Scotland. Owned by The University of Edinburgh, it contains one of the world’s most important collections of historic musical instruments, many of which remain playable in a concert setting.

Museum volunteers will interact with visitors to St Cecilia’s Hall, helping to provide a welcoming atmosphere and to assist the museum team with the day-to-day running of the museum.

Volunteers will work in ‘front-of-house’ roles greeting visitors, invigilating galleries, providing short tours of the exhibitions and delivering content-related information about the musical instruments displayed.

Volunteers will:

·         Greet and engage with visitors

·         Provide additional information about the instruments and building

·         Give short tours of the museum’s galleries

·         Keep analytic records of visitors

·         Ensure the safety of museum objects and visitors

St Cecilia’s Hall volunteers should have a passion for museums, heritage and music, a warm and welcoming personality and be keen to engage the public with the collections and the history of the building.

Knowledge of music and musical instruments would be helpful, but not required.
