Mearns Writers is a creative writing group which meet weekly in Inverbervie and Stonehaven and has been in existence for over ten years. The group was started by Community Learning to provide an opportunity aimed at creative development for anyone who wants to write. Issues of literacy, isolation, confidence and social inclusion are also high on the agenda of the group’s priorities although the primary focus is on developing and promoting writing skill.

Our membership comes from all parts of the community, ranging in age from teens to people in their early 80s and includes non-native-English speakers. All have a common interest in exploring their creativity through writing.

The group has published several anthologies of members’ work, held public readings, taken part in radio interviews and public exhibitions. Several members have been published in various magazines and periodicals and some have published novels and non-fiction articles.

We frequently visit other writers’ events and hold regular in-house writing workshops led mainly by established writers although on occasion some workshops are led by our own members. You can see some of our activities and some of our members’ achievements on our website.
