Glasgow ScrapstoreThe Glasgow Play-Resource Association Scrapstore is an Aladdin’s cave of weird and wonderful materials that can be used in all sorts of creative ways.

What is the Glasgow Play-Resource Association Scrapstore and why was it set-up?

The scrapstore was set-up to rescue and give new life to materials that would normally be sent to landfill, increasing pollution and waste.

The scrapstore also offers an alternative low cost resource for our members, saving lots of money when it comes to craft and play materials, as well as giving children and young people hours of fun!

What kind of materials do you sell?

The scrapstore does not sell anything, we ask for donations for the materials. This donation helps to cover our overheads, rent, transport, wages etc.

The materials that you will find in the scrapstore is varied and we normally have a core stock of:

Fabric, lace, buttons, ribbon and trimmings
Paper including gold, silver and sometimes other colours, red, blue etc.
Assorted card including corrugated, cardboard tubes and boxes
Plastic containers, bottles, tubs and cups
Foam, sponge, hessian sacks, carpet tiles, paint, balloons, cellophane and wire
We also have a range of different size picture frame
Office stationery including folders, paper clips and labels
The list is endless…….

We also get seasonal goods and have just received new Christmas stock!

Who provides the material?

All our materials are donated from a range of organisations, from small manufacturers and chain stores to universities and offices.

We also do scrap swaps. This involves scrapstores across the UK meeting at a central point and exchanging materials. This provides us with materials we might normally get.

Glasgow ScrapstoreWho uses the scrapstore?

We have a huge range of members including individual artist, schools, nurseries, playschemes, youth groups, elderly groups, community groups, Brownies, day care centres, and special needs groups - really anyone with an interest in crafts and play activities.

We support over 300 groups and individuals across Scotland. These members have access to the scrapstore, the art store, training, networking opportunities and regular newsletters with up to date information and news.

We offer a range of memberships and the cost varies. We offer special rates for playschemes and students. Full details of how to become a member is available on our website or you can give us a call to discuss your needs.

Have you got any upcoming opportunities?

We also offer a host of training opportunities and our new programme will begin in February. We can also design bespoke workshops for your organisation. Please feel free to contact us to discuss further.

If a business or organisation would like to donate materials to the scrapstore, how should they go about this?

We do have some rules about the type of materials you can donate and we can provide you with information about the types of materials that we can accept, and any legal matters. If you are interested in donating materials please call Sarah on 0141 423 3033 or email [email protected] so we can arrange to visit your premises and discuss this further.
