The Tinderbox Collective< Back to Shortlist

Whether it’s through free music lessons for young people, public performances or recording albums, the Tinderbox Collective has been a vibrant addition to Edinburgh’s music scene since 2010.

With over 70 members aged 8 – 65, coming from all walks of life, the Collective brings together amateur and professional musicians playing a wide range of musical genres. The one thing all the members have in common, is a love of music and a desire to share that with others.

The Collective has worked in partnership with North Edinburgh Arts in Muirhouse (one of Scotland's most deprived postcodes) who gave the group a desk in the venue in return for free music workshops for the local community.

These workshops were then opened up to young people from the wider Edinburgh community, and in June 2017 the Collective launched its debut album, featuring musicians from across the city playing music written and arranged voluntarily by members of the group.

The Tinderbox Collective’s main aim is to help people engage socially and creatively with others – and they use music as the engine for this.
