People Make Christmas< Back to Shortlist

Based in Glasgow, People Make Christmas was created in recognition of the fact that Christmas can be a challenging time and not everyone has somewhere to go and enjoy the day.

A series of creative events were run throughout December, to contribute to the Christmas Day event – including making a patchwork tablecloth for the meal; building a Christmas tree and decorations; cracker and card-making, during which people could write a Christmas Card to a stranger wishing them well.

Storytelling and singing workshops, and a Christmas Eve concert provided social opportunities for people to meet.

On the day itself, students far from home, the elderly, middle-aged people recently divorced, the homeless, tourists and single mothers with small children who would otherwise have spent Christmas Day alone, all came together for a great day.

They hope to continue and grow the event next year.
