GROWFest19GROWFest, was a two day festival to celebrate the heritage of Newcastle-under-Lyme (an ancient market town in North Staffordshire) by bringing traditional skills to the community in new and exciting ways whilst also celebrating sustainability and biodiversity.

On day one of the festival, ten local schools took part in a carousel of activities with local artists. At the end of the sessions the children went home with goody bags full of artwork they had made, wildflower seeds to sow and a new found knowledge of where they live. Day two was the community day, where local community groups, activists and educators demonstrated their skills and invited community participation.

The festival, which was funded by Awards for All, attracted over 800 visitors. Activities included: local pottery groups where people were able to ‘play with clay;’ food tasting by the food network’; seed sowing with the allotment association and a community group dedicated to waste reduction made hats out of recycled materials.
