A Grand Northern Ukulele Festival< Back to Shortlist

A Grand Northern Ukulele Festival is the largest and longest running ukulele festival in the country. In 2017, the festival hosted over 100 artists and more than 450 people took part in activities while audience figures topped 3,000. The GNUF team aim to involve as many people as possible and welcome people of all ages and backgrounds.

The organisers have worked with well known performer Tricity Vogue to better engage with those who identify as LGBTQ+ and expand the breadth and depth of their artistic programming. The festival has been welcoming of performers young and old and also involved local students in placements with their stage crew.

The GNUF team have sought to collaborate with other festivals and events in the West Yorkshire area to share knowledge and support marketing, while also sharing their experiences with newer ukulele festivals in the UK and across Europe. GNUF has been named Best Ukulele Festival by the UK’s UKE Magazine and they have been awarded The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.
