Ferns Community Adult Group is based in County Wexford, Ireland and made up of 15 women from the area ranging from 35 to 81 years old.

The group came together to create an artwork to enhance their local community - "Rooted in the community.” Themes were selected that reflected the nature and spiritual environment the artwork was sited in.

In order to fund the project the women designed 55 symbols in the artwork a healing tree. They sold the designs to friends, family, local traders and villagers in memory of loved ones or for anniversaries and gifts. The money raised by the sales funded the materials for the mosaic wall artwork.

As complete amateurs the group learnt about mosaic and created an artwork that the whole village felt part of. The installation involved husbands, brothers, uncles, children and local tradesmen who gave voluntarily to see the art in place.
