Active since 1997, the Blast Furness Community Street Band include members ranging in age from their mid 20s to late 70s. Regardless of their age, all the band members contribute to energetic performances in parades and at any of Ulverston’s eight major annual festivals. The group committed to 19 bookings during 2017 including unpaid support for local causes such as Walney Youth Centre, Sandside Special School, Barnardo’s Children’s Centre.

Regular weekend masterclasses with expert musicians help the band to develop their skills and expand their repertoire for upcoming performances. As well as contributing to local community spirit, the band is an important social outlet for the close-knit group. Band members say they feel connected and useful to the town and district.
