Avant Cymru is a hip hop theatre company, based in the South Wales Valleys, developed in a response to a lack of learning provision in the area. 

The company has provided new learning opportunities for young people in Wales, and has brokered new venues for training and performance throughout their community. Many hip-hop artists across Wales were working in isolation: creating, training, teaching on their own, without any joint platforms, training opportunities or joined-up thinking. 

Bringing a diverse range of local and international partners together, the project has organised performances and young people have volunteered at other dance festivals and events, to challenge misconceptions about hip-hop and breakdance, with the aim of starting a bigger conversation about what the artform could achieve both in Wales and beyond.
