By 2014, Creative Lives has become increasingly concerned about the relative lack of diversity within our staffing, governance and beneficiaries. 

Despite making a commitment to address this issue, very little action was being taken to rectify the situation because the organisation appeared to be held back by a nervousness at causing offence, coupled with an ease with doing what it has always done. We were effective and expanding our reach but had no real expertise in engaging with racially diverse communities.

We finally broke out of this cycle of inactivity and fear with a combination of strong leadership, developing partnerships, asking questions and investing in expert support.
