Dewar Arts awardThe Dewar Arts Awards were set up by the former Scottish Executive in 2002 as a fitting memorial to Scotland’s first First Minister, Donald Dewar.

They disburse the income from a trust fund to support talented young artists in Scotland, who do not have the financial means to pursue their ambitions.

To be considered for a Dewar Arts Award, an applicant must:

  • Be under the age of 30
  • Live or work in Scotland
  • Demonstrate outstanding talent in any artform
  • Be without the financial means to achieve their full potential

The Trustees look for candidates who have strong ambition and a real passion for their chosen artform. Applicants must be able to demonstrate a clear view of their future development (or that of a particular project), and how receiving a Dewar Award would help them to achieve their goals.
