Lynn Young of Dalmellington Brass Academy tells us how a 'Keep on Creating' microgrant from Creative Lives helped the group provide a warm, safe space for their young people to rehearse and practice. 

"Thank you Creative Lives for the grant of £300 which helped us to provide a warm space over the winter months for our young people to continue to practice, both individually and as a band on a Sunday evening.

This allowed us to have the band hall open for longer, for any of our young people to remain and practice or rehearse together in a warm and safe environment.

The Brass Academy has gone from strength to strength over the winter months, both as a junior band and as individual players. On 27 November 2022, the Brass Academy won their section at the Scottish Youth Championships; a number of our young people competed individually in February in Dalmellington Band’s annual Slow Melody Competition, as well as the West of Scotland Solo Competition; and in March we saw an increase in the number of our young people competing in the Ayrshire Music Festival.
