Creative Lives On Air producer, Jennifer Vernon-Edwards met up with Mother Hookers, a crochet group from Doncaster that brings people together through craft and companionship. 

"I need companionship and the Mother Hookers group gives me that."

Mother Hookers was set up in 2019 by two crafting friends who couldn't find a group in central Doncaster, so decided to start their own.

The group meets regularly in various venues across the city, during the daytime and in the evenings, and takes part in local events, building giant crochet structures like gingerbread houses and night skies out of wool.

Jennifer met with some of the Mother Hookers members in the summer of 2023, while they were at the Barnsley Underneath the Stars Music Festival, and recorded them for broadcast on BBC Radio Sheffield.
