Art in the ParkBased in Hastings in East Sussex, Arts on Prescription was founded by a team of artists in 2018. Their aim was to bridge the gap between those who accessed art and culture and those who did not, by implementing a referral pathway with a local GP that gave people access to quality art sessions.

In 2022, they successfully crowdfunded and took over a disused building in Alexandra Park to start ‘Art in the Park’, a creative wellbeing hub. A year later, they developed a training programme which enabled Art in the Park to be led by peer-volunteers who had been through the Arts on Prescription process and could now use their skills to help shape the service.

“Through our programme and signposting we have inspired and encouraged participants to find confidence, make friends, learn new skills, enrol at college, and access training,” says Tara Reddy of Arts on Prescription. “Some have now set up their own creative practices and have transformed their lives and the lives of others around them.”
