A year of creativity from members of Get Drawing Whitchurch

Get Drawing Whitchurch is a visual arts group based in Cardiff, which was established in late 2019 by Voluntary Arts Wales, and supported by Whitchurch Library and awen@thelibrary. From its inception, the group met weekly: first in Whitchurch Library and subsequently in Whitchurch Methodist Church when the library was being refurbished.

Starting in March 2020, when the first lockdown of the COVID-19 pandemic was announced, the group continued to meet weekly by moving its activities online.

In the year since, the group has created over 1,000 artworks. This booklet represents a curated selection of that work, and is a testament to the importance of participation in regular creative activity during troubling times.

"These sessions have helped to keep me sane in these very difficult times. I'm truly grateful and feel very privileged to be part of this group."

"Groups like this one are brilliant in that they help bring communities together, engaging a variety of people in activities to develop their creative skills within a comfortable, yet still challenging environment. It has really provided me with the encouragement to try things I’ve always wanted to do, but lacked the confidence and motivation to do it independently."
