Through a programme of dance, arts and crafts, and storytelling, Aberdeen-based Afristyle Dance Group helps children and young people gain confidence and work towards shared goals, as well as offering classes and workshops for adult women. Parents become mentors to the group and the club has become a supportive community for all ages.

“The club is a great initiative as we dance something different – it’s called Afrobeat and is one of a kind, the people of Aberdeen love it!” says organiser Assumpta Nwaopara. “We go to schools and care homes to perform. And the parent volunteers connect with the community and bring in invitations to perform. They’ve also organised food, money and mental health workshops, and we have a WhatsApp group where we brainstorm ideas.”
