Making Places Together - BelfastBelfast City Council teamed up with Voluntary Arts Ireland in September and October 2020, to host a series of virtual conversations to explore ways of bringing public spaces to life and create a more vibrant city centre. Joined by leading thinkers and doers from New Zealand to New York, local leaders from across the creative, civic and commercial sectors came together to discuss a range of topics as part of the Council’s 10 year cultural strategy, A City Imagining.

🎞 Videos of the webinars are now available to view and share.

The series asked the question 'How do we approach making places now?' As a result of the ongoing impact of Covid-19 our social and economic life is being reimagined. It has accelerated the natural evolution of places and encouraged us to confront some difficult questions. How do we remake cities in ways that enhance our individual and collective wellbeing as well as being good for the planet? How do we sustain civic agency and cultural life in the face of such systemic challenges?

These videos reflect the main provocations and discussion points that came up during each session and offer insights into new ways of thinking about and approaching creative placemaking based on real world experiences. They will inform the ongoing city wide initiatives associated with A City Imagining and the planning for some new pilot activities for 2021-22.
