Grants for creative groups in Hartlepool to tackle chronic loneliness and increase volunteer opportunities in 2024

Deadline: Wednesday 18 September 2024

Creative Lives is delivering a grant programme as part of a major initiative called Know Your Neighbourhood, led by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and supported by Arts Council England (ACE). The programme is operating in 27 priority areas across England. So far, Creative Lives has awarded over 60 grants in 22 of these areas. As we previously received no applications from Hartlepool, we have now adapted the scheme to offer four grants of up to £5,000 each to groups in this area.

Overall aim of the scheme

The overall aim of the Creative Lives Know Your Neighbourhood grants programme is to tackle chronic loneliness and increase volunteer opportunities, specifically through engagement in arts, heritage, and creative activities at a local level.

What are we looking for?

We want to support community or arts organisations that would like to use creative activities to start conversations, make connections, and reduce loneliness in Hartlepool. Creative Lives is offering four grants of up to £5,000 each to support groups to reach out to people who are at risk of chronic loneliness and engage them in creative activity.

The creative activity must be inclusive, welcoming, engaging, and fun! We are looking for projects across any artform which celebrate everyday creativity and the joy of getting involved. We particularly welcome applications from groups that are led by volunteers or where volunteers play a key role within the organisation. We also welcome partnerships and collaborations.

Are you eligible?

To be considered for a grant, your organisation must:

  • be a registered charity, CIC, or constituted group, with a registered bank account in the name of the organisation.
  • have an up-to-date safeguarding policy and an identified safeguarding lead.
  • have an up-to-date Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) policy and/or plan.
  • have appropriate liability insurance in place for the activity you are carrying out.
    • Please don't let this put you off! Insurance is usually straightforward to arrange and can often be done online for less than £100. You can include the costs of insurance in your Know Your Neighbourhood grant budget.

And your project must:

  • take place from October 2024 and be completed by February 2025.
  • take place in the Hartlepool Borough Council Local Authority area.
  • be primarily creative, across any artform or medium: music, dance, craft, heritage, visual arts, digital arts, theatre, cookery, and/or gardening.

If you don't meet all the eligibility criteria but have a project idea, or if you need further advice or guidance on any of the above, please contact us at [email protected].
