RNLI Coast LInes< Back to Shortlist

The Coast Lines project involved a community sharing their appreciation of each other and their love of the coastline.

The project aimed “to encourage the community to see the beauty in all which surrounds us, teaching and sharing the skill of drawing as a method for looking thoroughly and then to share our drawings so that our lines may inspire others”. Over the course of the project, 2,500+ drawings were created by over 1,500 local residents and visitors, all drawn in situ, celebrating the unique and the familiar, the dramatic and the mundane.

Prior to the concluding exhibition, workshops were delivered by the lead artist to encourage widespread engagement, and involved drawing on the beach, coastal path, local businesses, schools and residential homes.

Communal sketchbooks were available enabling every participant to see the drawings to date. The sketchbooks acted as bridges between the community, providing links, unity and ultimately drawing people together.
