The South Armagh Lace Collective is based in the village of Culloville in South Armagh. The group is dedicated to promoting the rich heritage and tradition of lace-making in this part of South Armagh dating back to the 1830s. The area around Culloville & Crossmaglen was known as a Centre of Excellence for lace-making with Culloville often being referred to as the early seat of Carrickmacross Lace. Culloville is home to what is believed to be the first purpose built lace school in Ireland. One of the main aims of the group is to pass on the traditional skills of Carrickmacross to the next generation through workshops and classes. In addition, we are committed to telling the untold stories of the lace-makers of South Armagh and we have been engaged in a range of activities such exhibitions, show and tell events, photographic and film making projects.
