Attenborough Arts Centre at the University of Leicester is seeking volunteer Gallery Assistants.

Time commitment

The gallery is open Monday – Friday 12–5pm and volunteers typically do 1.5 hours at various points in the day, working on a rota basis.

Rotas are compiled one month in advance and volunteers request which days/times they would like to come in. Volunteers are required to do a minimum of one shift per month to ensure their training and knowledge is kept up-to-date.

What’s involved?

  • Familiarising yourself with the layout of the centre and exhibition content to give a high standard of customer service.
  • Engaging customers with the exhibition, talking to them about the artist, the work on show and the events the centre has connected to the current exhibition.
  • Invigilating the exhibition, ensure all artwork is in place at the start and end of the day and that customers are mindful around any fragile or unglazed work.
  • Follow the ‘Volunteer Agreement’.

This role will suit you if you are:

  • Creative and would like to meet and work with like-minded people.
  • Looking to do something different in a venue that is fully inclusive and can teach you new skills, including increasing your knowledge of contemporary art and working in a gallery setting.
  • Available at least once a month.

By getting involved you could:

  • Join a fun and dedicated team and make new friends, enjoying new experiences.
  • Use your spare time in a rewarding way, giving time back to a venue that offers a range of outreach opportunities in the community.
  • Improve your CV and communication skills.
